If you don't want to trim your nails, you can choose to use a washing machine.
So you need a trusty mesh laundry bag to protect the delicate fibers of your jumper during the churning process.
When loading into the washing machine, avoid bulky items like towels and jeans alongside sweaters and delicate items.
This is more risky than washing your hands, so make sure you follow these steps exactly:
Treat stains on sweaters.
Put knitted clothes in separate mesh laundry bags. This prevents pilling and snagging in the washing machine.
Set the water temperature to the coldest temperature available. Warm water can cause natural fibers and even some synthetic fibers to fray; hot water can shrink materials such as wool and cashmere.
Choose the mildest cycle, such as the Hand-Wash cycle. If you have a top-loading washing machine, start the cycle and fill the basin with water before putting in the sweater. Add detergent, then submerge your pullover. For front-load washing machines, put the detergent first, then the sweater, and then start the wash cycle.
Do not choose to rotate. Skip that part of the wash.
When the wash is complete, put the pullover away and lightly roll it into a ball. Do not wring clothes. Just squeeze some water out before transferring the sweater to the towel. Lay it flat. Roll up the clothes with a towel. squeeze again.
After removing excess moisture, unfold the sweater from the towel and begin to gently reshape it. Push the ribbing together along the wrists, waist and neckline.
Allow your knitted items to air dry for 24 hours.
